Kashmir University

The University of Jammu and Kashmir, established in 1948, was divided into two distinct universities in 1969: the University of Kashmir in Srinagar and the University of Jammu in Jammu. The University of Kashmir is beautifully located in Hazratbal, flanked by the renowned Dal Lake to the east and Nigeen Lake to the west. The expansive 247-acre main campus includes the Hazratbal Campus, Naseem Bagh Campus, and Mirza Bagh Campus, the latter serving residential purposes. With additional land at Zakura, the university is set for further expansion, providing a serene environment conducive to academic and research pursuits.
Over the years, the University of Kashmir has grown significantly, establishing Satellite Campuses in Anantnag (South Campus), Baramulla (North Campus), and Kupwara, making higher education more accessible to remote areas in the Kashmir valley. A Sub-Office in Jammu serves students from outside the valley.

The university is dedicated to creating an intellectually stimulating environment that enhances the educational, economic, scientific, business, and cultural landscape of the region. Offering a diverse range of programs across major faculties—Arts, Business & Management Studies, Education, Law, Applied Sciences & Technology, Biological Sciences, Physical & Material Sciences, Social Sciences, Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering, Oriental Learning, and Music & Fine Arts—the University of Kashmir continually introduces innovative programs to meet societal needs and student demands.

Recognized for its commitment to excellence, the University of Kashmir has been re-accredited as a Grade-A+ institution by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) of India, reflecting its high standards in teaching and research.

Climate of Srinagar Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar's Climate and Weather Overview
Srinagar experiences a slightly continental climate, with cold winters and hot summers. Rainfall is moderate, with spring being the wettest season. Located in the extreme northwest of India in the Jammu and Kashmir territory, the city sits at 34 degrees north latitude and 1,600 meters (5,250 feet) above sea level. The Jhelum River, one of the five rivers of Punjab, flows through Srinagar before heading towards Pakistan. The surrounding valley is flanked by mountains exceeding 4,000 meters (13,100 feet), which are perpetually snow-covered.

During winter and spring, weather disturbances are more common in Srinagar compared to the lower areas of India. Winters can bring snow and frost, with temperatures dropping as low as -9 °C (16 °F) in January 1977 and 1986. Summers see occasional rainfall due to the Indian monsoon, which affects the city from June 22 to September 24. However, the monsoon is intermittent at this latitude, leading to periods of dry, hot weather.

### Best Time to Visit

The ideal times to visit Srinagar are during spring and autumn, particularly from mid-April to late May and in October. Autumn tends to be drier and sunnier compared to spring. Summers can be very hot and rainy, but temperatures in the mountains are more moderate.
